About LMM - Laboratory of Micromechanics of Materials

Welcome to the LMM research group at Georgia Tech, led by Dr. Hamid Garmestani. Our lab specializes in advanced computational modeling, micromechanics, and material design, driving innovations in engineering applications.
Our mission is to push the boundaries of material science through computational modeling, experimental validation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

We explore the relationship between microstructure and material properties using cutting-edge computational and experimental techniques. Our key research areas include:

  • Computational Design – Exploring microstructure-property relationships in materials using advanced computational frameworks.
  • Materials Characterization – Utilizing advanced techniques to analyze microstructure and texture evolution during processing.
  • Additive Manufacturing – Investigating the impact of manufacturing processes on material properties through modeling and experiments.
  • Thin Films – Processing and modeling thin film structures for advanced functional applications.
  • Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering – Designing innovative biomaterials for tissue engineering, nanomedicine, and biomedical devices.

Each of these areas contributes to our broader goal of optimizing materials for biomedical engineering, manufacturing, and advanced functional applications.
